Many believe hailstorms to be uncommon, but here in the United States, the impact has been disastrous. Causing upwards of billions of dollars each year, hailstorms are every Wisconsin business owner’s worst nightmare.

In July 2023, golf ball-sized hail smashed through the roof of a Walmart in western Wisconsin, forcing the store to close that night and the following day. Hailstorms are common occurrences in the state and it’s often that one will see damaged roofs, cracked shingles, and gutters that are dented and torn off.

That’s why it’s important to have the damage taken care of immediately and professionally, or you may end up spending a lot of money down the road. Since its creation in 2015, Brookens Construction has been fighting hail damage in Wisconsin with a team of experts who are committed to providing customers with peace of mind.

Aaron Brookens, Co-Founder and CEO of the company says, “If hundreds, if not thousands of small, icy pellets fall from the sky and onto the roof of a business, it puts the building’s most important waterproofing component at risk of faltering.”

“You’d be surprised,” he says. “Because even a three-inch-diameter hailstone hitting your roof doesn’t always show that your roof has a leak.”

With over 14 years of roofing experience, and having spent the better part of a decade leading Brookens Construction, Aaron says that “someone even as experienced as myself” can’t always identify the damage from the ground.

“If I’m standing in the driveway looking up at the roof, I can’t see it, so a business owner just doesn’t have the wherewithal to identify whether or not their roof is going to fall short a few years down the road or not,” he explains.

It may look fine on the exterior, but there could be tiny cracks or holes letting in water, and the next thing you know there is water running down behind the walls of your property or collecting on top of one of your ceilings and leaking down onto your products.

“It could also become much worse,” says Aaron. “It could become mold, and mold can become health issues with your employees and even customers.” Exposure to mold can lead to watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, itching, coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, headache, and fatigue.

Also, a business owner who waits until they see signs of damage will likely face an uphill battle in making a successful claim against their insurance carrier. Aaron explains that few carriers will honor a damage report later than 12 months from the time of a storm.

In their 9-plus years of service, Brookens Construction has performed countless number of free inspections for Wisconsin homeowners.  “If there’s hail damage, we’ll identify it. We’ll put it into a damage report, we’ll show you what we’re seeing on the roof, and that’s all there is to it,” says Aaron.

The company has hundreds of 5-star reviews, an A+ rating with the BBB, is Google Guaranteed, and received the highest level of certifications through several different shingle manufacturers. Their approach to inspections ensures that business owners have all the information they need to make informed decisions about their property–and go into any insurance claim with the data they need to make themselves whole again.

Not only has Brookens Construction maintained the excellent reputation that they have established over the last several years, but it has also continued to move upward and onward, having been ranked number 1,372 on the Inc. 5000 for fastest-growing companies of 2023.

The company specializes in roofing services for a variety of properties such as multi-family complexes, condos, banks, churches, and commercial buildings—practically anything with asphalt shingles.
